DIXIE FOUNDRY - promotional
skillet S. B. Rymer Sr. was a native of Polk
County. In 1916 he established Dixie Foundry Company. It initially
produced cast-iron holloware used for corn stick molds, fireplace grates
and frames, sugar pots, and teapots. In 1921 the company began to make
coal and wood ranges for the kitchen; thereafter, ranges of different
sorts have been the company's main items. In 1924 production expanded to
coal and wood heaters. Gas ranges came off the company's lines in 1928,
and in 1952 Dixie Foundry produced its first electric ranges. |

ECONOMY AUTO Associate Store 151 Inman St NE Cleveland Tenn 476-6481 The owner (manager?) was an *ss! My best friend, Steve Burgess, and I were about 10 or 12 years old and in the store. He stomped up, glared down at us and gruffly asked "CAN I HELP YOU!?" (more a demand than question) We gave the standard answer: "No thanks, we're just looking." He then yelled: "IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA BUY ANYTHING, GET OUTTA HERE!" (We skedaddled.) The store became OTASCO somewhere around 1971 |

To follow are some photos of old downtown Cleveland Tennessee

Speck Hospital
Inman Street in Cleveland TN
(Where I was born)
Dr. Arnold delivered me.
Dr. Sullivan was supposed to deliver me, but went to a rehearsal dinner for his
daughter's wedding.
He had delivered my mom, my aunt Sadie and uncle Danny.
My grandmother got mad at him because he "ran off" and didn't deliver me.
Mom said he peeked his head in the next morning and sheepishly asked: "Is Granny
here?
Mom said they brought a baby girl in to her and she said: "THAT'S NOT MY BABY!"
(Does anyone know the name of this girl who was born on or about March 27,
1952???)
Morris McClary was born 3 days before me and he has always said they tried to
switch me and him once.
(My pediatrician was Dr. Appling.)
Speck Hospital was established by Dr. Carl T. Speck
Bradley County's first general hospital
