Built in 1861 by Thomas H. Calloway and purchased that year by Julius Raht.
Raht used it for his home and the office of Ducktown Copper Company.
He was president of the Cleveland National Bank from 1877 until his death in 1879.
The property reportedly contained 2,000 acres.
It has also been claimed that the house had an underground passage/tunnel from the basement to the depot, but that claim is disputed.

W. P. Lang lived there, circa 1907-1915. Lang helped form the Cleveland Band & Trust in 1906 and was the 1st president of the Cleveland Rotary Club in 1924.

Tom E. & Willie Ruth May resided there from 1962 to 1999.

This may have been the first house in Cleveland, TN to have Television. Notice the 90' antenna put up circa 1949 to reach Atlanta. No TV stations in Chattanooga or Knoxville. I grew up across the street and played around it. Never realized how large it was. The Moore's could get Knoxville and Atlanta stations which was a big thing then. I did not realize I was growing up across the street from a history making house! The antenna was removed circa 1963 as Chattanooga provided stations. Will Jones is the current owner of the home, at the corner of Harle Ave & 21st St NW

JOANNA MOORE
Joanna Moore (November 10, 1934 – November 22, 1997) was an American film and television actress. Over the course of her career, she appeared in ninety-on (91) television and film roles.

Her first marriage was to Willis Moore of Cleveland, Tenn in 1951. In 1963 she married Ryan O'Neal and they had two children, Griffin O'Neal and (Academy Award winner) Tatum O'Neal.

Moore's career hit its peak in the 1960s. During that time, she guest starred in several popular shows of the era including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Perry Mason, Bewitched, and The Real McCoy's. One of her more notable recurring roles was as Sheriff Andy Taylor's love interest, Peggy "Peg" McMillan in four episodes of The Andy Griffith Show from 1962 to 1963. Moore was a guest star in television westerns like Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, The Rebel, and The Virginian.

In 1946 Ed Callaway and Joe Moore opened Moore's Drug Store in a building at Five Points. Two years later, along with partner Harry Ellis, they purchased a second and called it Ellis Drug Store. After graduating from pharmacy school in 1950, Ben Moore joined the staff and became a partner with his
father and uncle in 1953. A year later Ellis Drug Store became Moore's Pharmacy. In 1958 the Moore family opened Cleveland Apothecary on Broad Street and immediately saw the need for additional space and a better location. As a result, the family opened Medical Center Pharmacy on Ocoee Street in 1962 and Super Discount Pharmacy on Spring Place Road in 1978

He was the first husband of actress: Joanna Moore

Willis Moore's story of his marriage to Joanna Moore:
"He said they were really too young to know what they were doing when they got married, but he was down in Georgia, where she was from originally, competing in a beauty contest which she won. He flirted with her til she went out with him and eventually they got married. Long story short, she entered another beauty contest in Atlanta. The winner of the contest won a trip to Hollywood. Well, she won, but Willis had to stay back in Cleveland, working at the jewelry store. While in Hollywood, she was introduced to some important movie people who invited her to a Hollywood party. She got offers for television and movies and decided that is what she wanted to do with her life. She never came back to Cleveland and left Willis standing. She met an up and coming actor named Ryan O'Neal. They ended up getting married and had two children, including another famous actress, Tatum O'Neal. So for those who didn't know, Tatum O'Neal's mother lived in Cleveland, Tn. The incredible thing to me that I pointed out to Willis and J was that what makes the story so incredible is that despite being married to Ryan O'Neal, she kept the Moore name as her stage name in honor of Willis. When we talked, he had this glow about him when he talked about her. He tried to down play it but he could name every movie and television show she had ever been in. He definitely kept up with her career throughout the years. Joanna Moore was probably most famous for her role as Andy Griffith's girlfriend Peggy on the Andy Griffith Show. Willis Moore's name will forever be in Hollywood history." (David Swafford)
