Julius Raht house

JULIUS RAHT

Raht Homeplace
430 Linden Ave.
Cleveland, TN.

Built in 1861 by Thomas H. Calloway and purchased that year by Julius Raht.
Raht used it for his home and the office of Ducktown Copper Company.
He was president of the Cleveland National Bank from 1877 until his death in 1879.
The property reportedly contained 2,000 acres.
It has also been claimed that the house had an underground passage/tunnel from the basement to the depot, but that claim is disputed.

W. P. Lang lived there, circa 1907-1915. Lang helped form the Cleveland Band & Trust in 1906 and was the 1st president of the Cleveland Rotary Club in 1924.

Tom E. & Willie Ruth May resided there from 1962 to 1999.

Mr. Rucker was a member of the Broad Street Methodist Church. He and fellow member, Luke McReynolds began teaching the Gospel under open skies to a group of south Cleveland boys who did not attend church. (South Cleveland Methodist Church sprang from this endeavor.)
