I'm posting SPAM (unwanted email) I've received.
Hopefully this website will keep you from being ripped-off!

What is SPAM email?

I believe that Spam email is any unsolicited email you receive. 

Spammers (people who send out Spam) typically floods the Internet with many copies of the same message in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spammers may send a MILLION emails out for $99.99.

What is SPOOF email?

I believe that a SPOOF is any email that attempts to trick you into giving them information while the sender poses as someone they are not. 

Spoofers (people who send out spoofs) typically send you an email posing as a bank, eBay, PayPal, Visa,  etc... saying they need you to confirm your information because (numerous legitimate-sounding reasons). All you have to do is click on a legitimate-looking link in the email and enter your information. BUT when you click on that link, you are not really sent to the legitimate company, but a website that looks legit. If you enter your information, some sleaze will clean you out! (See below for some exampled that I've received.)

I got an email that my PayPal account was suspended, but the dirty b*astards had changed the HTML code so that when you click on a legitimate-looking PayPal URL, you really would be sent to festalmenara_com. May they all burn in Hell!

To follow is an email I received today. I forwarded it to PayPal and they said it was FAKE!
NOTE: The link appears to be a PayPal link, BUT when you click on it the crooks who sent it actually make it go to: http://www.losases.com.uy/ssl/pp/ so they can steal your info, clean out your account, scam other people with your account, etc... Here's the email I received today: (If you get anything asking for your account info FORWARD it to spoof@paypal.com (or whatever domain it claims to me from).

I clicked on the "click here" link and was sent to http://www.transor.pl/new/eBay/ and that is NOT an eBay company. I believe it to be a "SPOOF" site from Poland that looks like eBay and tricks you into entering your personal information. It asks for your bank account numbers, your credit card numbers, PayPal codes, Social Security Number, etc..... so that some sorry S.O.B. can clean out your checking account, put bogus auctions on eBay and scam people under your name, run up your cards, etc......!!!!!

Suggestion: When you get an email supposedly from eBay or a bank or ?????, simply open a window and type in www.ebay.com  (or whatever the company is). 

NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER  click on a link sent to you in an email that sends you to a site that asks for information!

Here's what that bogus website, http://www.transor.pl/new/eBay , looks like: 
(Looks legit, doesn't it?)

COMMON SPAMS & SCAMS & SPOOFS

1. A widow in Nigeria (or others from anywhere)  wanting to send you money and give you a portion of it for your trouble. 
   (They want your bank account information so they can clean it and you out!)

2. Singles wanting to meet you.
   (They may want your credit card number!)

3. People wanting to buy something you have for sale. 
   Example: You have a car for sale at $4,000. They have a cashier's check already made out for $6,000. 
   They "trust" you to cash the check, someone will pick up the car and the $2,000. Sound great? 
   (The check may be forged and by the time your bank returns it to you, you've lost $2,000 AND your car!!)

4. SPOOF emails that lead you to believe they're from a big company, when they are not. (eBay, big Banks, etc.......) 
   (Some people give their passwords out to the thieves, so BE CAREFUL.)

5. Emails can contain dangerous files that can corrupt your computer.

6. Chain letters. (Yes! I believe a chain letter / chain email is SPAM!)

7. Urban Legends. (Storytelling emails that appear mysteriously and spreads spontaneously in varying forms.)
   (Most are untrue or contain half-truths.) A popular Example: 
   
   Subj:  Fwd: cancer (dont delete..please)
    
   Hi, my name is Amy Bruce. I am 7 years old, and I have severe lung cancer from second hand smoke. I also have a large tumor in my brain, from repeated beatings. The doctors say I will die soon if this isn't fixed, and my family can't pay the bills. The Make A Wish Foundation, has agreed to donate 7 cents for every name on this list. For those of you who send this along, I thank you so much, but for those who don't send it, what goes around comes around. Have a Heart, please send this to everyone on your buddy list.

   This is a HOAX that has caused no end of wasted time and energy for the folks at the Make-A-Wish Foundation answering questions because many dupes have blindly "FWD"d it to their other idiot friends who forwarded.......
   Before YOU pass any email along, do a Google search with a line out of it to see if it's been debunked!)
   When I get one of these warm & fuzzy emails, I 'REPLY TO ALL' and shame the sender for sending it.
   

8. SPOOF, Phony PayPal emails. Here's one I received today:

   When you click on that hyperlink, you don't go to PayPal,  you go to some fake website that looks like PayPal. 
   They'll ask for you to "Verify your account" by giving them your password. 
   (Then, what do you think is going to happen to your PayPal money?????) 
   If you get an email from ANY company, go to their website by typing in the actual website address yourself. 
   DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS SENT IN ANY EMAILS TO YOU!!!!!! 
   (It's bad we have to be this way because of crooks, but we didn't used to lock our doors at night either.)

9. Here's another PayPal SCAM email I received today, 10-25-2004:

   Protect Your Account Info A genuine PayPal link will always begins with "http://www.paypal.com" Remember to check your browser's Address/URL Bar to be sure you are on an authentic PayPal site. Please make sure the link you click on starts with "https://www.paypal.com" Paypal will never ask for sensitive information. DO's and DON'Ts: 

• Don't ever reply to SPAM or suspicious email, even though it's tempting to say "LEAVE ME ALONE" (or worse).
  (all you're doing is telling them that you're email address is legit and to send you more SPAM!)

• Don't ever open suspicious attachments.

• Don't open emails from strangers that are over 4k in size.

• Don't ever click on any link to "remove your name from our mailing list" (or anything similar).

• Don't open an email that's FROM your email address.  (unless you sent it)

• Don't open an .EXE or .exe or Exe file unless you're very sure it's safe. 

• Don't open a .VBS or VBS Script file unless you're very sure it is safe. (I learned the hard way and it wiped out all my JPG images!

• Don't ever forward dirty images. (You could get yourself in trouble with the law or even the recipient with their boss.)

• Do DELETE [without opening] suspicious email. 

• Do get some kind of SPAM program for your email. (yahoo and hotmail offer it free)

• Do check your "junk" mail from time to time for legitimate email.
  (Mail filters aren't perfect and legit email will sometimes be in there.)

• If you do open a SPAM email, look at FULL HEADERS, forward to abuse@yahoo.com, ...bellsouth, ...hotmail, (or whatever domain it really came from) and then delete it.

• Do set up your email so that you can see the SIZE of emails sent to you.  (35k and 41k are common malicious sizes)
